Job Description:

Reporting directly to the Director, College of Integrated Health Sciences Center for Public Health Continuing Education, the successful applicant will serve as a member of a dynamic and rapidly evolving team of professional development staff providing training-related services and programs to state, county, and local public health professionals across New York State and beyond.   This person has overall responsibility for the operation of the Nursing Provider Unit and all continuing education nursing activities.  This includes working closely with the Continuing Education (CE) Manager, Nurse Planners in the Nursing Provider Unit, Center staff and Activity Planning Committee members in assessing needs, planning, implementing and evaluating these activities.

This position will also oversee and administer training programs offered in collaboration with the New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH) Office of Aging and Long-Term Care through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the NYSDOH and the University at Albany College of Integrated Health Sciences. This includes the Hospital and Community Patient Review Instrument (H/C PRI) and SCREEN Training Certification Programs and Minimum Dataset (MDS 3.0). The Primary Nurse Planner will work closely with the Budget Manager and the rest of the program team to ensure the timely delivery and quality of training.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary liaison to the nursing accrediting agency, including compiling and submitting annual qualitative and quantitative reports and reaccreditation documentation.
  • Oversee and manage the Continuing Education (CE) Nursing Unit and attend Evaluation Team meetings, ensuring the identification and assessment of outcome measures that advance nursing professional development and public health goals.
  • Ensure quality control and performance improvement for the CE Unit, maintaining comprehensive documentation of all nursing continuing education activities, and ensuring alignment with performance standards.
  • Review and approve documentation for all nursing continuing education activities, utilizing a checklist to verify compliance with the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) criteria.
  • Provide orientation and ongoing support to new Activity Nurse Planners (ANP), ensuring that all ANPs in the Nursing Provider Unit remain current with ANCC accreditation criteria and adhere to continuing education standards.
  • Stay informed on the latest ANCC criteria by attending quarterly calls and reviewing updates from the Northeast Multistate Division (NEMSD) and sharing relevant updates with the CE Unit and nurse planners.
  • Provide training and technical support to Center staff and activity planning committees, ensuring compliance with policies and procedures related to nursing continuing education activities.
  • Collaborate with Center administration and the CE Manager to prepare additional continuing education reports and participate in CE audits and related activities as needed.
  • Working with the H/C PRI and SCREEN and MDS project teams, overseeing the administration and delivery of training programs including:
    • Serving as the liaison with NYSDOH
    • Provide technical assistance and maintain communication with registrants and certificants
    • Work with the Budget Manager to manage and track all fiscal transactions, including payments, expenses, development/review of financial reports, and processing of check payments and refunds.
    • Oversee training evaluation efforts, including the review of learner data and the development of reports
    • Manage content updates as needed (in collaboration with subject matter experts and Professional Development Program)
    • Preparing quarterly narrative reports
    • Conducting promotional efforts (as needed)
    • Securing continuing education credits
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned

Other Responsibilities:

  • Dependent upon skills and qualifications, other responsibilities may also include:
    • Developing/transitioning curriculum for distance learning formats.
    • Assisting with review, updating, and development of training content
  • Participate in overall planning and organizational improvement.
  • Minimal travel will be required.

Functional and Supervisory Relationships:

  • Reports to Director, Center for Public Health Continuing Education
  • Supervises the following positions: No direct reports.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education, or an internationally recognized accrediting organization.
  • Current, unrestricted nursing license.
  • Two years in an administrative educator role.
  •  Demonstrated ability to assess needs; analyze gaps in knowledge, skill, or practice; plan and implement learning activities; and evaluate outcomes.
  • Professional experience in fields such as education, adult learning, or professional development (e.g., patient education, staff development, or teaching roles in higher education).
  • Proficiency MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in public health, health education, public administration, organizational development, or related field from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education, or an internationally recognized accrediting organization.
  • Two years of professional experience in the administration of public health or human services-related projects.
  • Experience working on public health/population-based issues.
  • Knowledge of NYS long-term care issues, regulations, policies, and regulations of long-term care services.
  • Experience working with state, local, and community-based agencies.
  • Experience in training in both online learning and in person training format.
  • Preparing and implementing training plans and timelines
  • Familiarity with accreditation requirements or CNE
  • Professional staff supervision experience
